Games feeling a lot bigger than they really were
Main Post:
Certain games loom large in my memory because of how large their worlds were and how lengtht their campaigns were. Then I actually go back and play them realising they're half the size and half as long as I recall them!
Playing Ocarina of Time for the first time, I was amazed by the size of Hyrule field. You only need to explore 5 nodes on the map to roll credits so I gaslit myself for years into believing there was more to see and do than there was. Years later, Horizon Zero Dawn would actually pay those feelings off.
As for game length, I didn't have a memory card for my PS2 so every game took six times the average time to beat. Jak 3 in my mind was this epic 60 hr long platformer shooter but a recent replay taught me the main campaign is like 12 hrs~
What sick lies has your brain told you about the size and scope of an old game?
Top Comment: It's the initial idea of these worlds' potential that makes them feel bigger. It's the same feeling you get with open world games when you boot them up at first. Everything is new, you don't recognize the landmarks yet, and thus it all feels infinite in a sense. Same thing goes for any other game. You don't know where the story goes and the possibilities are therefore endless. You don't know that you won't be climbing that mountain in the distance and thus it remains a part of that world. Upon replaying you know the mountain won't be climbed and you know when you're near the end. It all essentially becomes a lot more contained and tangible, as everything gets squeezed into the framework of that initial playthrough. Just a theory though, what do I know.
So after a lot of big gacha games gone through EoS, which one made you sad the most? Gacha games that have confirmed EoS but are still up count as well. : gachagaming

Games with A LOT of content
Main Post:
Any type of game that has a lot of content in both lore and gameplay. A type of game you could play for years and not discover everything, preferably one with a sort of class system as well, that can also act as a gateway for exploring different areas of content for the game.
Top Comment: I mean I gotta go with Baldurs Gate 3. I’ve played well over 1000 hours, and ran into new content TONIGHT while I was playing! The following parts of the game translate into substantial differences in your game, many of which have all kinds of secret content that you literally can’t get through any other means, meaning you need to play again with a new character: difficulty level (there are 4 and the hardest is pretty epic) custom or origin character (you can make your own character or play as one of the NPCs, unlocking tons more backstory for them) race/subrace (11 races, 31 subraces) class/subclass (12 classes, 46 subclasses. Now that mods are available on PC and console, there are actually way more that have been created). Plus you can multiclass (except on the easiest difficulty). diety (20 dieties to choose from). Officially only an option as a cleric, but I added a mod that gave diety option to every class. Each diety has truly unique and authentic content dusted throughout the world. ability point distribution. It gives you a recommended setting for each class, but I find the main game only lets you get to level 12, but mods are available to take you to 20. moral and romantic choices made throughout the world, as it effects your companions’ view of you and your reputation with merchants. The NPCs all have really nuanced personalities, goals and morals, so you can expect to be surprised by their opinions as you get to know them more. and then tons of armor/weapons/consumables to loot, buy, and/or earn. Not QUITE as many unique weapons as Elden Ring, but almost all the gear is substantially unique and enticing depending on your build. The story is both deep and wide, befitting an epic odyssey. But again, one of the strengths is that the story has multiple layers, and the devs don’t hold your hand to tell you “psst, look over here for something cool!” I think that is one of the strengths because it really does feel like fresh content when you start up a new game. I definitely suggest not looking ANYTHING up online even if you can’t figure it out. Sometimes failing at something or not interacting with it opens the best content.

I hate games being announced a lot of years away or without a window
Main Post:
It usually kills whatever hype I'd have for the game if I found out about it like one month before release. Games like Witcher 4, the latest Naughty Dog game and the latest team Ico project, I'm sure they'll be good, but releasing any sort of teaser now just leave a sour taste I'm my mouth.
Like man, in the time you're gonna release your game, so much things can happen. I very much rather find about your game when I have the expectation to play it. I remember when Hollow Knight shadow dropped on Switch, never heard of the game before, instantly bought it and it was one of my favorite games ever.
And then they announced Silksong. Coming soon, they said. It's been 6 years. At this point I just developed hate on the devs.
At TGA, I loved when Split fiction was announced and I was like, man by the time they release this, I'll have kids or something. Oh what, March 6 hell yeah let's goo.
End of rant. Just wanted to share a thought.
Top Comment: Many devs have stated outright that those super early announcements of big games are not for you. They’re to attract developer talent. “Hey, we’re making Elder Scrolls 6! Come help!”

Top Comment: Lot is a bit overshadowed by Naak nako and Caliste, but he is very solid so far.
Multiplier is ruining a lot of games
Main Post:
I just don't like that the multiplier starts rising after 4 rounds, sometimes the two players are close sure but let it play out for at least 8-10 rounds. So many games are decided by a lucky guess when the multiplier is above 2,5x, it's like it didn't matter that you won all several previous rounds by a small margin. It doesn't feel right winning or losing this way, I think it's bad game design when either player is satisfied with the outcome of a duel. How do you keep going after duels likes this? I just quit playing for a day or so since it makes me so disappointed lol.
Top Comment:
the alternative is having a lot more games last way too long, it sticks but it’s part of the game - you should get about as many lucky wins as you do unlucky losses anyway
Returning player. Has the game changed a lot?
Main Post:
Played during release and finished the story while also capping out my GS and fault the vault? (dungeon type thingy) to be too repetitive.
Been playing for an hour or so now and so far can see that the tutorial is completely different, which has me wondering of what else has drastically changed/improved?
Top Comment: Yes, there's been massive changes to the story. Don't spoil it for yourself, and just play.

I know a lot of you are sick of this game and waiting for 6 to come out, but man will I miss this era of gaming. You carried for 12 great years GTA 5, I’ll appreciate you forever.

I'm already sick of people talking crap about 5 , when we barely have minimal details for 6. If you are tired of 5, go away and try one of the hundreds of clones. We won't miss you
